Wireless home alarm systems, have you tried one?
Do you think they would be an effective line of defense for my apartment that is on the slightly rougher side of town?
I have a sliding glass door downstairs with an easily accessible patio facing the street.
Any tips for intruder prevention here would be helpful but mainly regarding hardware and these wireless systems.
Thank you!!!!!

Burglar Alarm Systems – Are They Efficient? Their Benefits Put Forth
Your home may well be the most valuable property you own and keeping it safe is critically important. A man’s home truly is his castle. Unfortunately, today’s homes don’t normally have drawbridges, moats, ramparts, or thick walls of stone to defend them. But you can make your home safe from unwanted intruders with modern security devices.
Today’s home security systems are effective and affordable. They keep burglars and other criminals at bay. Home burglar alarms protect your property and belongings and keep your family safe as well.
Modern burglar alarm systems are in great demand, as they’ve proven to be a very good way to protect your home and belongings. The burglar alarm system is a sophisticated electronic device containing sensors and a low-voltage power system connected to the main control panel. When the system’s signals are interrupted, screaming alarms get your attention and frighten burglars away.
The most common sensors indicate when doors are windows are opened or broken. Latest system designs are hard-wired to be more affordable, but retrofit wireless systems are inexpensive and easier to install.
Burglar alarm systems usually serve other purposes as well. They include alarms for fire or carbon monoxide and panic buttons for manual alarm signals. Designs range from small noisemakers to complex communication systems. State-of-the-art systems computer based, incorporating high-technology multi-zoned configurations. Designs currently being developed are portable and can be used for both your home and your vehicle.
The more sophisticated burglar alarm systems include independent features that allow the alarm service company to identify the zone that was triggered, the time, and the type of intrusion. They can initiate different actions reflecting different types of problems (for example, different alarms for burglars as for fire). They can make automatic calls to the police or fire departments, assuring quick responses to problems.
Other features include automatic calls to the homeowner’s telephone to inform them of emergencies or calls to an alternate if the homeowner can’t be located. Other systems use the zone configurations to identify different communications procedures. For example, you might want to have it programmed to notify the heating oil company that it’s time for a system inspection. Some burglar alarm systems are also attached to video surveillance systems to allow for real-time remote monitoring of the property.
The most important characteristics of an effective burglar alarm system are its accuracy in identifying the correct alarm outputs to assure quick and correct responses and the unit’s accuracy in communicating with the security service provider. When a system fails on either of these functions, it fails the homeowner. Homeowners need to be diligent in testing their alarm systems and securing the needed repairs.
Having a home security burglar alarm system has other benefits as well. You may qualify for a significant discount on your homeowner’s insurance when you have a system installed. The insurer may require a third-party certification verifying inspection and effective operation of the system. Be sure that the inspector’s report covers features beyond the promises and advertising of the security service company.
You’ll want to know that the inspector agrees that your system is efficient, reliable, and of high quality. When you know your home security burglar alarm system meets these three conditions, you can feel more secure that your family, your home, and your property are well-protected.

How does vonage work with home alarm systems that currently connect via the wired phone line?
I want to drop my phone service with AT&T, but I understand that VOIP service does not work with home alarm systems unless you get extra hardware for a charge. Will I need to keep a basic phone service just to have a dial tone to work with my alarm service?

How Do Wireless Home Security Alarm Systems Work?
Owning a home is a wonderful feeling. It is your home you can do with it as you want. Decorate it. Make improvements to it. Alter the layout and configuration. You now have a place a place for your family to call their own and to keep your belongings.
Most homeowners feel secure in their home. The exterior doors have locks and dead bolt locks on them. Some homes have steel exterior doors. These things make the home more secure; however, not as well as you might think.
Insuring that the house, and the people inside of it, is protected is important. It doesn’t matter where the house is located. It doesn’t even matter if the home is in a rural setting. Any house that has no deterrent to someone breaking in and stealing or harming a family member is asking for trouble.
What can the homeowner do to protect family and assets?
Consider installing a home security alarm. In the past having a security system installed required having cables pulled all over the house. Having the installers drill holes in the wall cavity to pull wires to each door, window, and sensor in the house. You have to move your furniture out of the installer’s way. Even the most careful and thoughtful installer will still make a mess that you have to clean up.
There is now available to a homeowner a wireless home security alarm. That means that there doesn’t need to be wires all over the house for the system to work.
Wireless home security alarm, the easier way to protect your home.
The wireless home security alarm is still monitored around the clock. In the event of a break in or fire the monitoring company will call the police or fire department as needed.
The alarm will still sound off so someone knows that there is an alarm. This is great because if the loud alarm sounds and it will most likely send the intruder running away.
Wireless Home Security Alarm Options
With any new wireless home security alarm comes many options for the homeowner to consider.
Have alarm system secure the doors and windows.
Installing glass breakage detectors.
Installing motion detectors in the major spaces in the house.
Wireless security cameras around the perimeter of the house.
Have the alarm system actively monitored?
Integrate the smoke / fire detectors into the alarm system.
Another significant décor item is the alarm interface panel. You will need to decide where to have it installed so that you have enough time to disarm the alarm system before it thinks you are an intruder.
Many new panels are nice enough that they won’t look cheap in the house. Consider the many options available and take some time to decide on what is best for the home and family.
A wireless home security alarm system offers home owners many different choices and options with minimal installation mess and hassle. Wireless alarm systems by their nature can be easily expanded and additional security devices added to the alarm system. A wireless home security alarm will give the home owner peace of mind and protect all assets including the most valuable thing in the house: the family.
