Car Alarm & Power-lock installation in a Escort Wagon?

I’m not a huge car guy, but I’m trying to learn. So please don’t just say “have someone else do it” because you will NOT get chosen for best answer.

Anyway, I need to know some info about installing car alarms and power-locks into a 95 escort wagon.

Can I install an alarm and then later down the road install power locks? Or do I have to do it all at once?

Is there anything special about Escort Wagons that will make installing an alarm or power locks difficult or strange? Could I just look up videos on how to install these?

Whats the most affordable alarm system out there? What does it come with? Needs to come with all the wires and parts for the job.

I would also like to put a blinking light in the cabin to deter intruders. Is there anything I have to be concerned with? Air bags maybe?

One last thing, what kind of tools will I need?? And maybe why I need them??

You can go ahead and install the alarm and then hook up the power locks later. Make sure the alarm you buy has the keyless entry option. I have bought my alarms from http://www.jcwhitney.com. They also have the power door lock kits. I put one of the power door lock kits in a S10 pickup that I had. I was very pleased with the results. Its a bit of work to put them in though. You will need a good wire crimper kit and/or a soldering gun. A test light or a meter to test wires. The alarm will come with everything you need including the siren, key fobs, led light and alarm module. I have install many alarms and the one I liked the best was the Valiant one from JCwhitney. They had another brand that did not work well, I think it was called bulldog. I had trouble with that one. Once you buy the alarm it will either come with instructions or a link to their website that will help you locate the factory wires you need to tap into in your specific car. Don’t worry about the airbags, you won’t get into that part of the car. Good luck.
